Today was confirmation and first communion for the youth of our church. Kate, who has attended a year of catechism instruction, took her first communion today.
She wore Gianna’s confirmation dress and looked lovely, if a tiny bit nervous.
We snuck in a few family photos before the service.
We are T Minus 11 minutes away from the 10-year-old slumber party. I’m armed with homemade pizza ingredients, brownie sundaes, and overnight French toast. Derek has geared up with Google Play movies and Wii games and blowup air mattresses. The grandparents have taken Jonathan and Sophia under their protective wing.
Let the giggling commence.
Since Kate turned ten and Jonathan is 2 3/4, we decided it was time for a little switcharoo. I’d been talking to Jonathan about the “big boy bed” in his room, which doubles as our guest bed, but he always responded with, “I want to go in there,” pointing to his crib.
But then we got [...]
Kate turns ten today. It’s hard to believe our fat and jolly little baby has grown into a tall, beautiful reed of a girl. (Want proof?
It’s spring, so we chopped off the hair. Sophia’s short curls really suit her spunky personality. Jonathan, despite his indignation at being made to sit for a photo, is handsome and looking like a boy again (his hair and eyelashes were so long, even when he was in head to toe blue [...]
For National Lutheran Schools Week, the kids get to dress up in themed outfits every day. Today is Generation day. Kate’s class is dressing like grownups. Sophia’s class is dressing like grandparents.
Kate chose a businesswoman suit. She couldn’t decide exactly what she does, but she said, “I work in an office. [...]
This little girl
is turning nine on Tuesday. Since I just interviewed Bakerella, inventor of cake pops, for a story, we decided to make some to take to school for her birthday.
We started by baking a cake and then crumbling it into a big bowl.
Then we added [...]
Kate started piano lessons in September, and she’s doing very well. We went to a party/recital at her teacher’s house last night, and I got to record her big debut. (What you don’t see here is Jonathan brandishing the fire poker, stealing other kids’ food, and taking away a little girl’s wheelchair. You also don’t [...]
Sophia turns five tomorrow, so we had a little lunch party with her friends today. But first, we went to Claire’s to get her ears pierced. She was very excited.
But a little girl got hers done first. She screamed and screamed, and it scared Sophia. She started to get nervous.
